The Bath

The Bath

The day before:  Cut their toenails and put plenty of corn starch in the oily part of their tail and leave it in the day before the bath.

If you don’t have the flexible shower head, it is best to get one.  Click here to is the one I have which I love it.  I also added this Brass shut off valve, I love it too.    I love this longer one!  It is so much easier to get them wet and rinse them.  If you have a shower with the sliding solid doors, that works the best.  I also added a thing so I can shut the water off on the shower head.  They relax better if you turn the water off after you have them soaked down.  I just turn it on slow to help get them wet as I am soaping them up.  I have a plastic chair that I sit on in the tub with the cats.  Sometimes they sit right on the chair, and sometimes they sit on my lap while I sit on the chair.

  1. Brush they out well before the bath.
  2. If needed, Groomers Goop  Put on dry, then rinsed out will help remove heavy grease like stud tail.
  3. Soak them with warm water.
  4. Shampoo the with dawn dish soap, or other cat shampoo of your choice.
  5. Rinse them well with clean warm water.
  6. Rinse them out with ¼ cup vinegar in ½ gallon of water.
  7. Rinse out the vinegar. I have also used  I measure my vinegar in the 2 quart picture and sit it beside the tub so I just put the warm water in when I am ready to rinse him out.
  8. If it feels like they need it, Rinse with Pantene cream rinse, or a kitty conditioner.
  9. Squeeze the excess water from their feet and tail, towel dry.
  10. If you didn’t use conditioner and see that you should have, I use Suave Kids Leave in Detangling Spray.  It works well on helping to remove any tangles you find after the bath as well.

Blow Dry

  1. My hair dryer has a long cord.  If your hair dryer has a short cord, get a heavier duty extension cord with 14 (heavier) to 16 gauge wire to plug it into.  Don’t use the cheapy smaller wire cords, they have a tendency to overheat.
  2. The smaller the bathroom, the better for blow drying.  One with an exhaust fan is good in case the blow drying makes it to hot in the room.
  3. Some of the kitties will sit right on my lap for the blow dry.
  4. You can leave them still wrapped in the towel if they are not in a hurry to get out of it.
  5. Open a part of the towel to expose a section of the kitty to start blow drying.
  6. Hold the dryer a full arm’s length away from the kitty.
  7. Turn the dryer on its lowest speed and medium temperature.
  8. Very slowly move the dry towards the kitty.
  9. Slowly move in closer as the kitty gets accustom to the dryer.
  10. If the kitty totally freaks, turn the dryer off for awhile and lay it on the floor close to the kitty.  Let him check it out.  Then move far away and start the process over again after the kitty calms down.
  11. Usually by the time you are done, most of the kitties kind of start to enjoy it.

Good Luck
